The New News

I just wanted to make a few announcements today. I have started a new blog. For all of you who don’t know it’s called The Art of Balanced Living. It has some recipes and things about self massage and general wellness. It’s great. Really it is.

I’ve also started a Mog. It’s a MySpace type thing but it’s all about music. One look at The Last Played List on my Mog proves that I really do listen to my husband’s CD.

My final announcement is that I’ve finally finished the revisions of The Box. I just have to give it to someone else to read before sending it out. I’m also nearly finished the first draft of Flying Lessons.

That’s all the news.

A Picture of the Sky

A few minutes after my husband left for a gig the other day he called me. “Would you do me a favor?” he asked. “Go outside and take a picture of the sky. It’s amazing.”

I had just gotten home from work and had already seen the amazing sky. Even though I grew up with a darkroom in my house and majored in photography for my first couple years of college, taking a picture of the sky hadn’t even cross my mind.

The Itsy Bitsy Spider?

The other day we went for a nice walk at Sawgrass Park. I like walking around that park. It is were most of the nature photography on this blog was taken.
There where a number of spider webs around. My husband loves spiders and was enjoying taking pictures of the large empty webs. Then he saw a large spider sitting in the middle of one of those large webs.
“That one’s huge!” he yelled. He had a look of glee on his face as he leaned over the walkway’s railing to get a better look. Of course, he knew the name of this kind of spider. I don’t. He placed the lens of the camera so close to it that when the wind blew the web, the spider nearly touched it.
“Don’t do that! What if it jumps off there and lands on your face?” I said, walking away from him. I didn’t want to witness what might happen next.
I didn’t realize that a few short minutes later, he would’ve convinced me to hold my trembling hand as close to the spider as I could so that he could take a picture that showed how big it was. How does he talk me into these things?

Sorry

I haven’t posted a blog in forever. I had a miscarriage two weeks ago and things have been quite busy and emotionally draining. I’ll be blogging again next week.

Go Gators!

While walking in the park we saw an alligator. It swim under the boardwalk we were on. We have seen this alligator before. It is rumored that it has a nest near one of the trees a few feet from the boardwalk. The last time we were at the park it was lying by the tree. We thought it was dead because it had a Pepsi can and branches on its back. It even looked dusty. After discusses at length how long we thought it was dead and whether a park ranger will take it away, the alligator suddenly shook its head.

This time my husband took its picture. I wouldn’t do it because I was too afraid to lean over the railing to get a good shot. This is the picture. I have a question for all of you. How many alligators are in this picture? My husbands says there is only one in the center of the picture beneath the branches. I say there is a second one in the left corner. He disputes this saying that there was only one alligator.

So Sorry

My hands have been giving me some troubles. I think it’s a touch of carpal tunnel syndrome so I’m taking some time off writing. I’ll put up a new post next week. I promise.

Cold Turkey

I’ve decided that watching television is a big waste of time and I’m not going to do it anymore. I’m just going to watch one last episode of Lost tonight and after that I’m through. I’m quitting cold turkey. Where did that phrase come from? What do turkeys have to do with quitting and why do they have to be cold?

On the nights I apartment run, I’m going to watch television because it makes the time go by so much faster. I don’t know if I could successfully do a twenty minute apartment run if the television wasn’t on. The whole time I’d have to look at the timer, and you know what that does to time–makes it drag. So I’ll only watch television every other day because that’s when I run.

I’m going to keep watching news programs because news doesn’t count as television watching. We all need to be informed. I listen to NPR during the day to get most of my news, but seeing pictures as I listen helps me process it better.

So that’s it. I’m giving up television cold turkey, except for on apartment running days and watching the news. I’ve already started watching Amazing Race this season so I need to finish the season to see who wins, but other than that I’m not going to watch any television at all.
