Jello

Okay, I admit it. I’ve been completely ignoring The Mooch this week. Don’t take it personally. Sometimes you just need some space. I promise it’s not you, it’s me.

Anyway, I thought use some music to let you know that you’re still important to me. Here’s a nice little song my husband wrote. The song has nothing to do with you and me really, but it is about food and nothing brings people together like food. It’s called Jello.

In case you didn’t know Utah has the highest Jello consumption rate in the United States. Also, in case you’re English and don’t know, Jello is what Americans call jelly. Enjoy!

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Note: My husband read this post and said this.

My Husband: You know, the rest of the world calls it jelly.

Me: Rolling my eyes.

My Husband:Sorry to insult your Americanisms, but it’s true.

Me: (Under my breath) Well, excuse my Americanisms then.

New Music Video

I made another music video for a friend’s song. The recording of this video featured a lot of disagreements about which camera to use to record scenes and how many retakes needed to be recorded. That’s what happens when you have a really opinionated cameraman.

Anyway, we recorded this last month at The Devil’s Chimney on the Isle of Wight. It was cold, the ground was wet, and I’m sure I stepped on some slugs in my bare feet. Sometimes you have to suffer for your art.

The song is by Johnny Vanderlip. You can buy his CD, Phresh Produce, here.

Que Sera Sera

I’m back in the UK. During the trip we managed to go a full 24 hours without sleeping. No jet lag cure will remedy that situation. I feel like my brain will fall out of my head. So, here’s a song I like. It’s Sly and the Family Stone, not Doris Day. I’ll post tomorrow.

Pile of Dirt

I made a music video not too long ago for a friend. I hope you enjoy it.

Did Your Husband Leave You?

When my husband isn’t working he usually goes with me to church on Sundays. This past Sunday he was working. When he got home I told him that people asked about him at church. He immediately picked up the guitar and started singing this.

What I’m Listening To

I’ve been editing my latest novel recently. Editing is hard work, but it needs to be done. I have books and books planned in my head, but I have to finish this one first.

Much like when I write, I like to listen to music when I edit. The editing music of choice this time is Little Elevator by Kirk Adams. If you don’t know that album, I feel sorry for you. You really should get to know it. Find out more about it here.

Just today my husband said, “Everyone writes stupid lyrics except for John Lennon and Kirk Adams.” If that’s not an endorsement I don’t know what is.

Just a quick note. The Mooch will start having a video component soon–as soon as I get my act together.

The Library

I saw this video on White Readers Meet Black Authors and I thought it was funny, but I was shocked when I got to the end and realized it was a BYU video because I swear the guy curses in the middle of it. I watched again just to check and I swear the guy says F%$@ in the middle of this video. It seems strange that BYU would make a promotional video about using the Harold B. Lee Library with a swear word in the middle. Anyway, watch it and tell me, do you hear a swear word? What the heck is happening at BYU these days?

Old Pirates

I’ve been learning to play the guitar recently. It’s really fun. There’s something about being really terrible at some things that pleases me. So far I’ve learned to play Fool on the Hill and Hallelujah terribly.

I’m currently working on Redemption Song. Part of learning to play these songs is learning the lyrics.  I never realized how wrong I get lyrics much of the time. For example, I always that the first line of Redemption Song was “Old pirates yes they’re rabbi.” In reality Redemption song has nothing to do with a rabbi or rabbis pretending to be pirates or pirates dressed as rabbis. But doesn’t it sound like he’s saying old pirates yes they’re rabbi to you?

He’s Leaving Home

The American returned to his native country yesterday. It was a cloudy day that he began by loudly singing the Star Spangled Banner in the bath. Then he put on his suit complete with American flag pin, and we headed to the airport. In the car he talked about the beauty of his homeland and sang a few patriot songs.

He’s staying there with his mother to complete the final years of teenagehood. Here are some pictures I took at the airport.

insideboybwHere’s a song too. Just for the fun of it.

The Sea

Finding the perfect music to write to is so important. Songs creep into my imagination and plant the seeds for stories.

Recently I’ve been listening to The Sea by Corinne Bailey Rae. I’m not usually into pop albums. I’m not really mainstream and I  don’t usually like my music to be mainstream either, but there’s something about this album.  Check it out. That’s an affiliate link, just so you know. I don’t want anyone to think I’m trying to put one over on them. Which I wouldn’t be. I’m just saying I like the album. If you like it too maybe you should buy it. Maybe you might even use my affiliate link to do so.

Here’s a video from it.
