Knit Knit
I learned how to knit in school when I was about seven years old. Looking back on it now I wonder who thought it was a good idea to give a bunch of seven-year-olds a couple of sharp sticks to play with. I’m pretty sure the boys just ended using them for sword fighting. I don’t remember anyone loosing an eye though. That’s definitely something I would remember.
I used to like to sit and knit long scarves that I never wore. I only knitted briefly though. When I was seven I had other things to do like try to jump my banana seat bike from a ramp and swing out in front of oncoming traffic on a rope. Knitting needles were sharp, but they didn’t provide the sense of danger and excitement I was seeking in my seven-year-old life.
Now I’m a few years older and I’ve decided that knitting may provide just the right level of excitement for me. I picked up my knitting needles about six months ago and started teaching myself how to knit again. I decided to knit a scarf. I finished that scarf about two weeks ago. It was done just in time to be worn by the bad guy in the Dangerous Knife video. Six months is too long to be working on one scarf. I’m thinking there must be a better way.
I’ve put my knitting needles down for now in favor of crochet hooks. I heard that crocheting is faster and more fun than knitting. So far neither seems to be true, but I’m thinking that once I get enough practice the real fun will start. For now I’m just crocheting a scarf, but in six months, after this scarf is finally done, I plan to crochet a working television.
